Magic Squares - Online Mixed Media Collage Course
Make Something Gorgeous! Discover the Joy of Magic Squares
A wonderfully moreish adventure in mixed media collage, bursting with colour, texture, sparkle and endless creative possibilities.
Have you ever looked at a beautiful piece of artwork and thought…
Ohhhhh, I wish I could make something like that!
Perhaps you've admired those wonderfully colourful, richly layered collages, filled with flowers, birds, patterns, textures, tiny treasures and unexpected little details.
Perhaps you've imagined having something equally gorgeous hanging in your own home. And perhaps, almost immediately, another thought has arrived.
But I'm not artistic!
Well, I have something lovely to tell you.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE!
You don't need to know how to draw. You don't need to have studied art. You don't even need to know what you want to create.
You simply need a little curiosity, a willingness to play and someone to show you how to begin and be there throughout the whole process!
And I would absolutely LOVE to be that someone for you!
Welcome to MAGIC SQUARESMagic Squares is my wonderfully colourful online mixed media collage course.
I'll teach you how to create beautiful, richly layered artwork using colours, pictures, papers, fabrics, patterns, textures, sparkle and all sorts of little treasures.
And the most exciting thing?
Every piece you make will be entirely your own
You might choose glorious flowers, quirky birds, magnificent trees, magical creatures, mermaids, rainbows or something completely different.
Perhaps you'll create an underwater world filled with turquoise seas and tropical fish. Perhaps you'll surround yourself with beautiful pinks, reds, oranges and shimmering gold. Or perhaps you'll discover something you never imagined making when you began.
There are no rules about what your artwork must contain. This is your opportunity to explore the things YOU find beautiful.
Oh, the Pleasure of All Those Little Details! I absolutely ADORE this process.
I love choosing my papers, cutting out flowers and birds, discovering beautiful colour combinations and wondering what I might add next.
Sometimes I use craft papers. Sometimes old wrapping paper. Sometimes fabric, threads, sari wool, buttons, beads, washi tape or beautiful little metallic symbols. You won't be held back!!!
And sometimes I discover an image that makes me think… Ohhhhh, I definitely want THIS in here!
Perhaps it's a fabulous dog on a piece of wrapping paper. Or a gorgeous bird. Or a tiny sparkling heart.
It's extraordinary how these little things can come together to create something magnificent.
You begin with separate pieces.
One colour. One image. One texture. And gradually, something wonderful begins to emerge beneath your hands.
Something that belongs entirely to you.
WARNING! This Is SERIOUSLY More-ish!Now, I really must warn you about something.
Once you begin making Magic Squares, you may find yourself becoming completely engrossed!
You'll think… I'll just add one more little bit.
Then you'll discover another beautiful colour. Another image. Another tiny detail. And suddenly you're thinking…
Oh, I wonder what would happen if I put THIS over THERE?
Before you know it, you may not want to stop... who cares about hoovering and cooking!
I remember finishing my first piece and immediately wanting to make another. I was itching to begin again and it all began by chance.
There is something extraordinarily pleasurable about seeing a collage grow beneath your hands.
And the possibilities really are endless.
But What If You've Never Made Art Before? Please, please don't worry.
One of the things I hear from women is: I could never make anything like that.
And I understand why. When you look at a finished piece of Magic Squares artwork, you're seeing every single stage of the process all at once. All those colours. All those layers. All that texture. All those beautiful little details.
It can look terribly complicated.
But you won't be making the whole thing at once...
I'll show you how to create your artwork one stage at a time whether you are an absolute beginner or have made art since year 1 in school.
You will learn how the different elements come together. You'll see exactly what I do. And you'll have the freedom to stop, replay, experiment and take all the time you need.
There is absolutely no rush. No pressure to keep up. And no expectation that yours should look like mine.
In fact, I hope it doesn't!
I want you to discover what YOURS can become.
One Process. Endless Possibilities.Something I particularly enjoy about teaching Magic Squares is seeing how wonderfully different everyone's artwork becomes.
We might all begin with the same process. But the finished pieces? Oh, they're glorious!
One woman created an amazing underwater world filled with turquoises, greens, beautiful tropical fish and extraordinary flashes of yellow, orange and pink.
Others are drawn towards trees, flowers, birds, whimsical creatures or rich, vibrant patterns.
I love trees, owls, foxes, birds and faces, and you'll see many of them appearing in my teaching.
But perhaps you love unicorns. Or butterflies. Or mermaids. Or fabulous abstract shapes.
Whatever catches your imagination can become part of your artwork.
You are likely to create something deeply personal and meaningful.
Or you might simply choose colours and images because they make you HAPPY!
Both are absolutely wonderful reasons to make art.
Imagine Saying, "I MADE THAT!"Can you imagine walking into your favourite room and seeing a gorgeous piece of artwork hanging on the wall?
Something full of beautiful colours and tiny details. Something that catches the light and makes you smile.
Something YOU created.
And then someone visits. They admire it. And you get to say…
"Oh yes… THAT… I MADE IT!"
How fabulous would that feel?
Some of my own Magic Squares artworks hang in my home, office and studio. Some I've sold. And some I simply cannot bear to part with!
One of my largest pieces measures approximately 48 inches wide by 26 inches long, and I still get such pleasure from seeing her glistening in the sunlight. I sparkled all my trees up with glitter... they refuse to hide!
You can make a piece for your favourite room. You can create something for someone you love. You can make a beautiful gift. Or you can simply enjoy the entire experience of making something for yourself.
And once you've learnt the process, you can return to it again and again and every single one will be uniquely different.
And You Won't Be Left to Figure Everything Out Alone! Now, this is something particularly important to me.
I'm an artist, but I'm also a therapist. And throughout my work, I believe very strongly in accompaniment.
I don't particularly like the idea of giving someone a collection of videos and leaving them to struggle if they become stuck.
Of course, some people will happily work independently. And that's wonderful!
But what about the woman who gets halfway through her artwork and isn't sure what to do next? Or the woman who simply wants to ask a little question? Or share something she's delighted with?
That's why I've created a FREE Facebook group for women exploring Magic Squares.
You can come along and share your creations. See what other women are making. Ask questions. Enjoy a little creative company.
And I'll be there too!
If you get stuck, simply tag my name, Kas Martin, and ask me your question. I'll come along when I'm next available - sometimes within minutes or a few hours - I am VERY responsive - and offer some help, encouragement or a gentle suggestion.
Not to tell you what your artwork should look like. Not to take over your choices. But to accompany you as you discover what you can create.
And if you'd rather quietly enjoy making your own artwork without joining a group, that's perfectly lovely too.
Everything is offered. Nothing is imposed.
How Does the Online Course Work?Magic Squares is a comprehensive online course containing nine step-by-step teaching videos, taking you through the creative process from beginning to end.
You'll see how I build my artwork, layer by layer.
You can watch each stage, pause the video, make your own discoveries and return whenever you need to.
There are written prompts and downloadable resources to help you along the way.
You can use some of my images and templates if you wish.
Or you can discover and collect your own.
You'll have an entire year of access, so there's plenty of time to explore, experiment, revisit the teaching and make more than one piece.
And you don't need an enormous collection of expensive art supplies.
You can begin with sturdy paper or a board, paints, oil pastels, glue, craft papers and pictures that catch your imagination.
Then you can add fabric, thread, buttons, glitter or whatever little treasures you fancy.
Please don't feel restricted by what I use.
Part of the pleasure is discovering your own materials and possibilities.
Make Time for Something Gorgeous.I think there is something rather wonderful about giving ourselves permission to spend time creating.
Not because we have to. Not because we need to be productive. Not because someone else needs something from us.
But simply because we enjoy it.
Because colour makes us happy. Because our hands want to make something. Because we love beautiful things. Because we are curious about what might emerge.
And because sometimes it's absolutely delightful to become so absorbed in something that the rest of the world can wait.
You don't need to justify that pleasure. You can simply have it.
